"Personal History"

Everybody has a personal history that all build upon or around concepts such as language, religion, immigration, economics, and background. As to part of my background I'm descent of two parents that were born and raise in the Dominican Republic. All of my grandparents from both my mom's and my dad's side of the family were also born and raised in the Dominican Republic. However only my grandparents from my father's side of the family came to the United States. My parents came to the United States a year before I was born which means that they came to the U.S. in their late 30's or early 40's most likely in the year of 1992.

Language

Both of my parents speak only spanish. My sisters and I speak english and spanish and that is because even though my sisters were born in the Dominican Republic, they came to the United States at a young age where they learned english in school. Since I was born in the United States I speak english and spanish equally.


My parents speak spanish not only because they were born in the Dominican Republic but because in 1492 the Dominican Republic also known as Hispaniola was discovered by Christopher Columbus. Christopher Columbus was a spanish explorer who was sent by King Ferdinand II and Queen Isabella from Spain to find new land for more power, territory, crops and gold.

Once Christopher Columbus landed on the island which he named Hispanola, he conquered the island by kicking all the Tanio (which were Native Americans) people and taking over the land including all the crops. As a matter of fact Hispanola was one of the first European settlement in the lands of the Americas.

Religion

My whole entire family is Catholics. In the Dominican Republic 95% of the people there practice Roman Catholicism which came from

Topic#1 World War I

I used google advanced research to find information on World War I. At first when googled World War I, I got 543,000,000 websites. However when I went to advanced search and typed in with the exact words I typed in "World War I" and got 2,500,000 website. Then I went back to advanced search and added to at least one of the words and typed in "new weapons" and got 2,280,000 websites. Next I went back to advanced research I added to without the word "guns" and as a result got 2,23o,ooo websites.

Topic#2 Martin Luther King

I also used google advanced research to find information on Martin Luther King. First I googled Martin Luther King and got 5,760,000 websites. Then I went to advanced research and next to the words with the exacted words I typed in "Civil Rights" and got 1,770,000 websites. After that I went back to advanced research and next to the words with at least one word, I typed in "segregation" and got down to 548,000 websites. Finally, I went back to advanced research and next to the words without the words I typed in "Rosa Parks" and got a total of 326,000 websites.

Topic#1 Louisiana Purchase

I decided to find information on the topic the Louisiana Purchase. For this topic I found a lot of websites that are related to it. I found a website called The Louisiana Purchase and I consider this website a bad one because it is very short and not so much information is on this site. Another reason why I believe that this site is not a good one is because it doesn't have a great number of links. However there is another Louisiana Purchase website which I believe is good. This website is quite good because it has a great amount of information and even thougb it doesn's have a lot of links it aleast has pictures with the writing.

Topic#2 World War I

I was also researching information on World Was I. This website that I found on World War I is a bad website. The first reason why this website is not a good one is because it has very little information on World War I not even a page long. Another reason is because it has no links at all and on top of that is has no pictures but that's optional. On the other hand, I found another website which is a good one. This website is good because it has plenty of information and along with that informaiton it has pictures. Additionally this webstie also has other links to the site.

"Peer review of I am"

I peer reviewed Raymond's blog and found out many things about him. While I was reading his blog I was very interested to know what type of person he is and what he is all about. In his I learned a lot about Raymond. I from reading his blog it sounds like he is a family but is sometimes annoyed by his little brother and maybe that's why it seems like he wants his brother to go to Texas over the summer. Additionally I learned that wants his four year experience at ITHS to be a very successful one even though he lives in Brooklyn he believes that is was worth coming to ITHS and so do I. On his free time he like to go on myspace, playing football, riding his bike, hanging out with his friends and visiting his ex girlfriend which he is taking time out to recover from but I believe that he will find another girl that's right from him.


I believe that the way Raymond wrote his blog was very professional and it only had like one spelling mistake. His type of writing reads very smoothly allowing one concepts leads to the next which means that his writing is very easy to read and he has good paragraph strucuture. The only thing that i believe would make his blog better is if he added what is his background and some information about the junior high school he graduated from otherwise I really liked his blog and I believe that other people should read it.

"I am"

Hi my name is Estefani Trofel and I am very excited to be an incoming freshman in Information Technology high school. I was born and raised here in Jackson Heights, Queeens however I am also a proud dominican girl. Both of my parents were born in a city named Santiago in the Dominican Republic and so were three of my steps sisters. I have four steps sisters and one step brother, three of my sisters are from my mom side of the family and the other sister and brother are from my dad side of the family. Overall I come from a big family with a lot of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Even though I have a big family they can get a little crazy sometimes and that is where I all of my craziness from.


Aside from my aunts, uncles, and cousins I also have two nephews and two nieces. My nephew Carlos Emilio and my niece Christina Janet are children of my sister Yoka (yes I know weird name.) However my niece Melanie is daughter of my other sister called Elizabeth and my other nephew Nene is son of my sister named Cecilia.


I love to go to the park and out with my friends. At the park I like to go on the swings and also play basketball and sometimes handball but I'm not really good at it. Ocassionly I like rollerblade without falling and busting my but which I do very often especially in school. However I dont really get to go out but that is because I get stuck babysitting my two year old niece which is kind of funny because of all the things that Melanie does but at times I get very tired and mad because Melanie sometimes doesn't listen to me (it's not like she has to or will anyways.)


Besides going to the park and babysitting I love to go to parties and listening to music on my computer while I'm IMing or do something related to myspace and if you want me as a friend to go to myspace.com/crazy_ladiie_e. I am a very goofy girl at times and sometimes a little crazy (just a little) but I am very nice to everyone unless I get mad at somebody however I dont hold grudges and I dont know why but I just dont. Additionally, i dont really like perky people i dont know why but I am not a girl that likes or causes problems.


Before I came to ITHS, I went to IS145 and I believe to the best school year there was the end of seventh grade and eighth grade. From my old school I will miss all my teachers except for some exceptions and I will miss all my old friends but hopefully I will make new and crazy (crazy in a good way) friends here at ITHS.
